We are very excited to launch Wawi Navarroza's book "HUNT & GATHER, TERRARIA" in Cebu at 856 G Gallery: a geographic exploration of the artist's city, Manila, through terrarium assemblages sourced and mapped from all around Manila.

The image of each terrarium and the origin of its contents (soil, ferns, rocks, flowers, plants) evoke a wide range of memories and feelings for anyone that has spent time in Manila. Beyond this nostalgia each image of individual terrariums opens up a connection to a wider geography between the reader, book and environment.

The book also stands as one of the few internationally sold and recognized art/design/photo publications, a must have for any supporter of Filipino creative practices.

Who:
WAWI NAVARROZA is an artist/photographer from Manila, Philippines. She graduated from De La Salle University, Manila and attended continuing education at the International Center of Photography, New York. In 2012, Navarroza completed her scholarship European Master of Fine Art Photography at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Madrid.

Her work with photography has taken shape in performative tableau vivants to her more recent interest in landscape, constructed still life, and installation. Her photographs propose a familiar 'other place' that opens up to fabricated emotional space that seem to be carved out by both personal and collective memory and amnesia.

She has been awarded as recipient of Cultural Center of the Philippines 13 Artists Award, Ateneo Art Awards, Lumi Photo Prize Helsinki, nominations for Signature Art Prize Singapore, Sovereign Art Awards Asia, among others. She has exhibited works locally and internationally at the National Museum of the Philippines, Art Science Museum Singapore, Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery, Hangaram Museum, Korea, National Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan, and the Fries Museum of Contemporary Art, Netherlands, to name a few . Navarroza's pieces are a part of the permanent photography collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and LUMI Foundation, Helsinki/Oulu, Finland.

She also sings for a post-punk rock band called The Late Isabel. In 2015, she founded Thousandfold, a platform for contemporary photography and the first library for photobooks in Manila, Philippines.

In the past few years she has based herself in Madrid, Barcelona and Cadaqués, Spain. Currently, Navarroza is working and living in Manila, Philippines.
